Mala ʻAi ʻOpio Community Food Systems Initiative or MAʻO was established to recognize our land and youth as our most important assets and to catalyze educational and entrepreneurial opportunities around these assets to address the root causes of our own cultural, social, economic and environmental poverty.

MAʻO is an acronym for mala (garden) ʻai (food) ʻopio (youth) or youth food garden and affirms our belief that when we reconnect and restore the relationship between the land and the people, we are able to return abundance and prosperity to youth, to their families and to the community.

Kahumana Organic Farm Social Programs

Kahumana is committed to developing programs for vulnerable members of our society. Our approach is person-centered, holistic, strength-based, education and work-focused, and community driven.

In our experience, a genuine community of support is often lacking for the people who come to our programs. It is the healing influence of a supportive community that contributes to making progress out of poverty.

Each individual and/or family comes to us with a unique situation that requires a customized approach. By taking the extra time and effort to fully understand the biography and background of every adult and child in our program, we are able to work with the person to build an individualized plan and network of supportive services and therapies appropriate to their situation.
